Joseph W. Slinger age 92 of Pipestone, MN died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Pipestone County Medical Center. Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Pipestone. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Monday, May 26, 2014, also at St. Leo's Catholic Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service in the church social hall, with burial to take place following the luncheon, at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy, MN is handling the arrangements.
Joseph William Slinger was born on November 27, 1921 to Henry and Elizabeth (Bult) Slinger on the family farmstead near Woodstock, MN in Chanarambie Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Woodstock and attended country school in Murray County.
On September 14, 1949 Joseph married Rose Ann Geraets at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, SD. After a spending his whole life farming, they retired into Pipestone in 2007. He will always be remembered by his family as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed all aspects of his life on the farm, doing some carpentry work with his son, and playing the accordion.
On May 22, 2014 Joseph died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Pipestone County Medical Center, at the age of 92.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Slinger of Pipestone, MN; two daughters, Bibianna (Jim) Fehring of Shakopee, MN and Joanne (Dave) Petersen of Hardwick, MN; two sons, Gregory (Becky) Slinger of Cabool, MO and Larry (Bev) Slinger of Pipestone, MN; twelve grandchildren, Cheol, Chris and Kim Fehring, Robert and Richard Petersen, Karlee Teeters, Jenna Eaton, Cody, Shane, Kortney, Brianna and Andea Slinger; two great grandchildren, Kenzie and Kaydrien Slinger; two special nieces, Maria Alexander of Sioux Falls, SD and Cindy (Dayle) Filkins of Truman, MN; four sisters, Agnes Chapman, Helen Burkard, Margaret Slinger and Betty Staab; two brothers, Henry (Mary) Slinger and Bernard (Judy) Slinger; nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, Henry and Elizabeth, four brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.
