Joyce Carol (Hanson) Wigness was born June 15, 1932 in Minneota, MN to Ted & Laura (Foss) Hanson. Joyce graduated from Minneota High School, and was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong faithful member.
She married Orville John (O.J.) Wigness September 23, 1951. They moved to their farm in Minneota where Joyce was a homemaker and had 3 daughters; Laurie, Cindy and Trudy. She lived there until 1965 when they moved to their current home in town.
Joyce and O.J. wintered in California for many years. In 1981, they made Mission, TX their residence and enjoyed Texas for 29 years.
Joyce was a very social person. She enjoyed entertaining friends, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her family.
After an eight and one half year courageous battle with colon cancer, Joyce died on Friday, September 10, 2010, at the Minneota Manor.
She is survived by her children Laurie (Bernie) Shell of Solon, OH; Cindy (Greg) Hawkins of Minnetonka, MN; and Trudy Vien of River Falls, WI. She has five grandchildren Sheridan (Shell) Yarberry, Shana (Hawkins) Kolodziej, Mitch Hawkins, Gunnar Vien and Courtney Vien, along with one great grandchild, Keagan Kolodziej; one sister, Bette Grinde, sisters-in-law Darlene (Hanson) Sigurdson and Ruth Hanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville, and brothers Clifford, Richard, and Linde.
