Karen Kay Evans age 57 of Balaton, Minnesota died on Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson, MN. Services are 10:30 AM Friday, April 11, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Karen Kay Evans was born September 30, 1950 to Charley and Norma (Ouverson) Ewing in Canby, MN, Yellow Mediciane County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Marshall Public Schools. Karen graduated from Marshall High School in 1969. As a young woman Karen worked as a waitress at Mikeâs Café in Marshall and the Pla-Eatorium in Balaton.
On July 22, 1977 Karen married Richard Evans in Brookings, SD and they made their home in Balaton, MN. Karen worked as a Production Manager for Schwanâs Sales Enterprises in Marshall for many years. She was also active in her community, as a past member of the Balaton Fire Department and Ambulance Service, she was one of the first women to complete the training necessary to be a part of the squad.
She was a past member of 1st English Lutheran in Marshall and a current member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton. She enjoyed camping, shopping and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In March of 2008 Karen became a resident of the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson, MN where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, April 7, 2008 at the age of 57.
Karen is survived by her husband, Richard Evans of Balaton, MN; one daughter, Amy (Chris) Rolph of Brandon, SD; three sons, Jason (Lisa) Evans of Parker, CO, Justin (Erin) Evans of The Woodlands, TX and James (Janice) Evans of Burnsville, MN; four grandchildren, Katie and Sean Evans and Tara and Paige Rolph; one brother, Donald (Bonnie) Ewing of Balaton, MN; three sisters, Darlene Muhl of Minneota, MN, Lucy Moren of Little Falls, MN and Ruth Ludwig of Cornville, AZ; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her parents, Charley and Norma Ewing, her father and mother-in-law, Richard and Lila Evans, and two brothers-in-law preceded her in death.
