Kathleen Marie Giefer

Kathleen Marie (Nelson) Giefer was born on August 22, 1924, in Lynd, to Werner and Irene (McLaughlin) Nelson. She grew up in Lynd, attended country school and graduated from Lynd High School. On September 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Francis “Tom” Giefer at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. The couple farmed and raised their family near Balaton until retiring and moving to Marshall in 1997. For the last year and a half, Kathleen has been living at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She enjoyed flower gardening and feeding and watching birds. She also enjoyed playing Bingo at the Manor. Kathleen died on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her children Dianne (and Fred) Clark of Hampton, MN, Betty (and Tom) Arndt of Verndale, MN, Les Giefer of Garvin, Alice (and Albert) Leasure of Springfield, MA, Bernard (and Kathy) Giefer of Cannon Falls, MN, Collette (and Mark) Carstensen of Deer River, MN, son-in-law Keith Swanson of Cross Lake, MN, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sisters Audrey (and Don) Hammer and Joan (and Jim) Peters, brothers Steven (and Barbara) Nelson and Bob Nelson, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, daughter Nola Swanson and infant son Francis.
