Kenneth George Verschaetse was born to George and Lena (Versluys) Verschaetse on February 25, 1933, in Moline, Illinois. As a child, Ken moved with his family to Ghent and later graduated from Marshall High School. Ken was united in marriage to Shirley Boerboom on August 20, 1951. This union was blessed with five children. Ken served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, the couple moved to Ghent where they raised their family. Ken worked as an agribusiness sales consultant, most recently with Cenex Harvest States. He loved to hunt and fish with friends and his children. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Lake of the Woods. Sharing time with family was important to Ken. He loved nothing better than making pancake breakfasts and fish fries with the family at the lake cabin on Lake Le Homme Dieu in Alexandria, MN. Ken adored his grandchildren and loved attending their many activities. Ken died on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by his four sons: Terry (and Cindy) of Marshall, Bill (and Judy) of Alexandria, Tim (and Ruth) of Faribault, Randy (and Lisa) of New Ulm and daughter Mary (and Dan) Van Hauwaert of Marshall, ten grandchildren: Bailey, Madi, Nathan, Paul, Joe and Sam Verschaetse, Alissa (and Chris) Salvato, Kristin (and Lance) Andries, Ethan and Kaylee Van Hauwaert, two great grandsons: Alex and Ben Salvato. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, father, George, mother, Lena and brother, Eugene.
