Cornelius âKnickâ Archie Boerboom was born on June 9, 1918, in Ghent, MN, to Cornelius and Marie (VanDenBerghe) Boerboom. He grew up and attended St. Eloi Catholic School in Ghent. Knick served in the U.S. Army during World War II including time in Italy. After his honorable discharge, he returned to SW Minnesota and was united in marriage to Marion Peters at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley on February 11, 1947. The couple farmed on the Boerboom family farm near Ghent until they moved to Stanley Township in 1955. They raised seven children. They continued farming until 1983 when they retired and moved to Marshall. Knick enjoyed woodworking and donated many of his projects. He also enjoyed playing golf, pool and spending time at the Senior Center. He was a member and Past-Commander of the U.S. American Legion Post 113 and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Knick died on Thursday, February 5, 2009, at the Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, of Marshall, children Laura (and Larry) Olson of Waseca, Beverly Abraham of Mesa, AZ, Randal (and Teri) Boerboom of Chatfield, MN, Nancy Rose of Springfield, MO, Bonnie (and Joel) Melnick of Vergennes, VT, Carolyn (and Brian) Cassel of Verona, WI, Chris (and Lisa) Boerboom of Madison, WI, 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, siblings Andrew (and Peg) Boerboom of Cottonwood, Clarice (and Bill) Versaevel of Marshall, Walter Boerboom of Luverne, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Sophia, Theresa, Harry J., John, Joe, Mary, Francis and Evelyn.
