Larry Dale Metz was born on January 25, 1951, in Slayton, to Walter and Deloris (Molitor) Metz. The family lived near Lake Shetek until moving to Marshall in 1968. Larry graduated from Marshall High School in 1969. He attended Granite Falls Vocational Technical School for a couple years. Larry was united in marriage to Barbara Goltz. To this union were born sons Mike and Craig. He worked for the Schwan Food Company, first as a truck driver, and later as the Inventory Control Manager for the Beverage Plant. Larry moved to Balaton in 1973. In retirement, he worked for the city of Balaton and enjoyed his time as groundskeeper at the Golf Course. He volunteered for the Balaton EDA and served on the Board of Directors at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. He was an excellent baseball and softball player. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing. After battling cancer for a few years, Larry died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by his sons Mike of Pueblo, CO, and Craig (and Wendy) of Balaton, grandchildren Tylar Noyes and Alissyn Metz, siblings Susan (and Jerry) Edwards of Milroy, John (and Nelda) Metz of Waseca, Daniel Metz of Marshall, Robin Metz of Marshall and special friend Karen Dutcher of Balaton.
