Laura H. Anderson age 89 of Westbrook, MN died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Murray County Hospice House in Slayton, MN. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday, prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook is handling the arrangements.
Laura H. Anderson was born March 8, 1923 to Wilhelm and Amelia (Noding) Sell in Westbrook, MN, Cottonwood County. She was baptized on April 29, 1923 and confirmed on September 5, 1937 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Laura attended Westbrook Public Schools, graduating from Westbrook High School in 1941. She then attended Mankato Beauty School for a year and then worked in St. Paul, MN before working at Haberman's Beauty Shop in Westbrook.
On August 11, 1945 Laura married Wilbert Anderson and they made their home on a farm near Walnut Grove, MN until 1951. They moved to a farm near Lamberton, MN that year and farmed there until they moved into Westbrook in 1959. Laura then opened her own beauty shop which she operated until her retirement in 1977.
While living near Lamberton, Laura was active in her church and after moving to Westbrook, she continued to stay active in her church teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and Ladies Aid, where she held several leadership offices. She enjoyed music, poetry, reading, flowers, TV game shows and traveling.
Wilbert and Laura stayed in there home until 2002 when they moved into an apartment. In 2008 Laura moved into the Peterson Estates, before becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook in 2010. Laura recently moved into the Murray County Hospice House in Slayton, MN, where she died, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the age of 89.
Laura is survived by her one daughter, Sandra (Gerald) Pearson of Dundee, MN; two grandchildren, Jeffry Pearson of Shakopee, MN and Kristin (Kris) Knutson of Tea, SD; one sister, Hilma Thompson of Windom, MN; two brothers, Alfred Sell of Ft. Collins, CO and Richard "Bud" (Delores) Sell of Walnut Grove, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.
Her husband, Wilbert, one granddaughter, Patricia Pearson, her parents, five sisters, Clara Schultz, Ella Peterson, Bertha Peterson, Elsie Cole, and Irene Schadt, three brothers, Walter, Emil and Edward Sell preceded her in death.
