Lawrence August Buysse was born on July 7, 1927, on the family farm in Westerheim Township to Julius and Natalie (Van Dorpe) Buysse. He grew up in rural Minneota, attended school and St. Edward Catholic School and graduated from Minneota High School. On October 8, 1951, he was united in marriage to Janet Roles at St. Leo Catholic Church. In 1952, the couple moved to a farm in Westerheim Township where they raised their family. As a child, Lawrence participated in Golden Glove Boxing. He later enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with his friends. He was talented and enjoyed building projects in his shop. He also enjoyed restoring I-H Tractors. He was a natural story teller and was proud to have a story published in the book âA Living History of Southwest Minnesota: Victory Gardens and Long Handled Dippersâ. He was most passionate about farming and his family. He enjoyed feeding his cattle and gardening.
After a brief illness, Lawrence died on Thursday, September 14, 2015, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Minneota, children Janell (and Jim) Fligge of Gary, SD, Larry (and Valerie) Buysse of Minneota, Jolynn (and Gary) Johns of Tracy, Julie (and Jim) Bottelberghe of West Union, MN, Sharon (and Rick) Hanson of Echo, MN, Lori Froland of Poway, CA, Lowell (and Ronda) Buysse of Moorhead, 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, sisters Marjorie (and Willard) Crosby of Bloomington and Jeanette (and Thomas) Lahr of Arden Hills, MN, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward at age 4, one grandson and 2 great-grandchildren in infancy.
