Leo Fier

d. April 6, 2015

Leo Fier was born March 2, 1922 to Joseph and Veronica (Blaszak) Fier on the family farm in Lincoln County, Alta Vista Township. He attended country school and was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton. In 1958, Leo was united in marriage to Mary VanDamme at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent and together they made their home on the family farm where they remained their entire life. Leo and his brother provided custom corn shelling in the Taunton, Ivanhoe and the Porter communities and wore out 7 corn shellers during their career. Leo was very proud of his shelling crew as they were always there to help him and his brother. Leo also farmed and drove truck locally. Leo was a member of the Men’s Club at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton and was a current member of St. Leo Catholic Church. Leo enjoyed farming and staying busy and he also enjoyed fishing in his younger years. Later in life, Leo enjoyed driving around keeping track of his family and helping with various tasks such as bringing lunches to the fields, giving rides from field to field, picking up parts, and spending time with his family. He took great pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On Monday April 6, 2015, Leo passed away unexpectedly at his farm in rural Taunton at the age of 93. He is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Judy (and Richard) Pesek of Taunton; grandchildren Mark (and Allyson) Pesek and their children Mya and Mak of Porter, and Jill (and Steven) Resler and their children Ava and Addison of Owatonna; sister Clara Kopitski; special niece Agnes Ratajczak who grew up on the same farm with Leo, and other special nieces and nephews. His parents, one brother and sister-in-law Walter and Josephine Fier, and sister and brother-in-law Marie and John Lutzwick preceded him in death. Blessed be his memory.
