Mass of Christian Burial for Leon Knutson, 72, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. â 8:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp â Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. â 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
Leon Arlan Knutson was born on September 19, 1938, in Lake Benton, to Fred and Christine (Krog) Knutson. He grew up in Lake Benton and graduated from Lake Benton High School. Leon was drafted and served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Lake Benton. On April 4, 1966, he was united to Beatrice Kapolczynski at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Leon drove grain truck for a while before taking a job for the Schwan Food Company. He worked for Schwanâs for 30 years, retiring in 2004 as the manager of dry storage. After his retirement, he took a job at the Hy-Vee gas station. Leon was very social. He enjoyed visiting with his customers at Hy-Vee, hosting friends at barbeques and other venues, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He and Beatrice enjoyed travelling and Leon also enjoyed fishing and flower gardening.
Leon died unexpectedly on Monday, September 05, 2011, at his residence in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of Marshall, daughter Sandra (and Mark) Enemark of Tyler, son David (and Nancy) Knutson of Marshall, grandchildren Kristin, Brandon, Nicole and Mackenzie, siblings Anita (and Herb) Hemrick of Mesa, AZ, Elroy Knutson of Lake Benton, Ila (and Elmer) Possail of Tyler, Keith (and Diane) Knutson of Mesa, AZ, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, and several in-laws.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
