Leona Mae (Steuck) Locy was born on April 1, 1925, in Birchard, MN, to Herman and Gertrude (Habben) Steuck. She was baptized in 1947, received first communion and was confirmed at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. She went to grade school in Florence, MN, and graduated from Tyler High School in 1947. After high school, Leona moved to Reaton, WA, where she worked for Boeing. She returned to Southwest Minnesota and was united in marriage to Alphonse Locy on December 28, 1948, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. To this union was born one son, Michael. Leona worked at various jobs over the years including Marshall Produce, the Red Owl Store and McLaughlin & Schultz. She and Alphonse enjoyed travelling, especially their annual vacation. In 2010, due to health reasons, she moved to Watertown, SD. She enjoyed many wonderful friendships while living at Benet Place Senior Community. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. Leona was passionate about her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as an unconditionally loving mother and grandmother.
Leona died on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, SD. She is survived by her son Michael (and Tamara) Locy of Watertown, grandchildren Zachary and Alexandra, brother Edwin Steuck of Ivanhoe, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alphonse, sisters Marie Carlson, Emma Oberg, Elsie Garton, Helen Johnson, and other in-laws and extended family.
