Leona Irene Peterson

Leona Irene (Kosak) Peterson was born on September 10, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN, to John and Theresa (Haider) Kosak. Leona grew up on a farm near Lake Shetek and attended country school. She worked for several local families with various tasks including helping with children and cooking for local farm crews. Leona also worked for Henry Paul’s General Store in Currie, and, later in life, for Midwest Supply and Coast to Coast. On February 7, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harvey Peterson. The couple lived near Balaton before moving to a farm south of Tracy where they lived and raised their family. Due to Harvey’s health issues, the couple moved to Tracy in 1973. Leona enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing and bird watching. She was most passionate about her family and especially enjoyed following her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. For the last couple of years, Leona has been living and receiving care at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Leona died on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. She is survived by her children Darrel (and Cindy) Peterson of Blue Earth, Pam Peterson of Tracy, David Peterson (and Deb Bjorklund) of Tracy, Cheryl (and Tom) Hoff of Marshall, grandchildren Jessica Peterson, Sara (and Dan) Krueger, Garret Hoff and Grant Hoff, great-grandchildren Madison and Brooklyn Krueger, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Florence Kosak, John J. Kosak, Jeannette DeBlieck, Bette Skyberg, Patrick Kosak and many extended family members. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Prairie View Healthcare Center, Sanford Tracy Medical Foundation, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Mayo Clinic Foundation.
