Leona Viola (Rode) Peterson was born on February 21, 1925, in Russell, to Fred and Louise (Meier) Rode. She grew up in Rural Russell and graduated from Russell High School. In 1948, she was united in marriage to Harold Peterson. The couple lived in Russell for a few years before moving to a farm near Balaton. In 1997, they moved to their current residence in rural Lynd. Leona enjoyed reading her Bible, flower gardening, sewing and enjoying Godâs creation. She also enjoyed bringing out the beauty of wood with staining and varnishing, her love of farming and driving her 4020 John Deere. Family was very important to Leona and she very much enjoyed time spent with them.
Leona passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at her home in Lynd, with her family by her side and is now gone to be with the Lord. She is survived by her husband, Harold, of Lynd, children Diane (and Martin) Moore of Marshall, Sharon (and Michael) Hulsizer of Marshall, granddaughter Joyce Moore, great-grandchildren Matrim and Alexandria, brother Melvin (and Reva) Rode of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Bernice Wild, Luella Martin, Arthur Rode and Elvera Balke.
