Leonard Wambeke was born on August 27, 1917 to John and Sidonie Wambeke in Minneota. He was baptized, received First Holy Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic faith at St. Edwardâs church. Leonard attended Minneota public school. Leonard served in the Army from May, 1941 and was honorably discharged in November of 1945 and ranked as Sergeant. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre and received a Purple Heart medal for being wounded in action. Then he began farming after being discharged and retired in 1978 and moved into Minneota Manor. He was a lifetime member of the St. Edwardâs Catholic Church and the American Legion. Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing bingo at the Manor.
Leonard died on Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ferdinand, John, infant brother Joseph and sisters Bertha Fancher, Lenora George, Elizabeth OâNeal, Anna Burton, Marie Coequyt, Julia Swanson and Margaret Engels.
