Lila June Nord

Lila “June” Nord age 91 of Balaton, MN died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Balaton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton is handling the arrangements. Lila June Nord was born June 17, 1921 to Christ and Mabel (Anderson) Christensen on their farmstead near Balaton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Balaton Methodist Church and attended Balaton Public Schools, graduating from Balaton High School in 1939. “June” as she was widely known, was employed as a domestic as a young woman prior to her marriage. On February 13, 1943, June married Malcolm Nord in Marshall, MN. They made their home on a farm near Balaton until her husband retired from farming in 1976. They then moved into Balaton and wintered in Mesa, AZ. After Malcolm’s death in 1990, June made her permanent home in Mesa. June enjoyed playing cards, quilting, sewing, and reading. She also loved to cook and entertain. She was an active member of the Balaton Methodist Church until she moved to Mesa and transferred her membership to Velda Rose Methodist Church in Mesa in 1990. She also was active in years past in the Balaton American Legion Auxiliary. In October of 2008, June moved to Lakeview Senior Housing in Balaton and then in July of 2010, she became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton, where she died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the age of 91. June is survived by one son, Gary (Faye) Nord of Gold Canyon, AZ; daughter-in-law, Nancy Nord of Apple Valley, MN; one sister, Marian Nord of Balaton, MN; one sister-in-law, Barbara Christensen of White Bear Lake, MN; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. Her husband, Malcolm, her parents, one son, Neil, two brothers, Jerry and Kenneth, and many brothers and sisters-in-law preceded her in death.
