Lila Jean Olson was born September 21, 1933 to John and Myrtle (Slater) Hass in Lamberton, MN. At the age of six, Lila moved with her family to Westbrook, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook and attended Westbrook Public Schools.
On March 21, 1954 Lila married LeRoy Nelsen in Lamberton and they made their home in Minneota, MN, Rockford, IL and El Paso, TX. In March of 1961 Lila moved back to Westbrook. She worked as a waitress in Grace Seemannâs café for ten years and also two years as a nurses aid at the Westbrook Hospital.
On January 19, 1963 Lila married Sterling Olson at the Bearier Valley Lutheran Church in Valley Springs, SD and they made their home in Westbrook. Lila was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, where she was active in the womenâs church groups. She enjoyed making crafts, knitting, crocheting, embroidering and making quilts. She also loved having coffee with her many friends and neighbors, going to bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Sunday, December 16, 2007 Lila died at the Westbrook Health Center, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 74.
Lila is survived by her three sons, Kenneth (Nancy) Olson of Grants Pass, OR, Dennis (Kathy) Olson of Ruthton, MN and Michael Olson of St. Paul, MN; one daughter, Sheryl (Michael) Dougherty of Westbrook, MN; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Nelsen of Westbrook, MN and Lorraine Burks of Pasadena, CA; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her husband, Sterling, parents, four brothers, Dorlon, Willard, Howard and Harold and one grandson, Sterling II preceded her in death.
