Lillian Welu

d. March 31, 2012

Lillian was born in McLaughlin, SD on September 6, 1922 to Emil and Christine (Hammerschmidt) Forsman. After high school, Lillian moved to Vesta where she would later meet her best friend, Lyle Welu at the High Hat café. Having no reason not to go on a second date, the couple continued to date and would eventually get married on November 24, 1942 in Vesta, MN. The hardworking couple worked side-by-side on a dairy and grain farm raising animals. The greatest joy to Lillian was being a wife and watching her family grow. She taught each of her children to, “Be good people.” She was a beautiful seamstress and did talented handiwork. Her faith was very important to her as she took an active role in St. Michael’s Church. After Lyle died in 1990, Lillian continued to live in the community until she moved to her daughter’s home in Eden Prairie, where she was able to enjoy seven years with her family. With her family by her side, Lillian died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at her daughter’s residence, under hospice care, in Eden Prairie, MN. Lillian is survived by her children Diane (Ronald Sticha) of Fort Myers, FL, Linda (Lloyd) Turbes of Wabasso, Karen (Thomas) Tamble of Roseville, Joseph (Jean ) Welu of Chanhassen, Mark (Sue) Welu of Nisswa, Mary (Dan) Dugan of Chaska, Matthew (Angie) Welu of Tyler, Kathryn Kading (Thomas Sikes) of Eden Prairie, Janet Welu of Plymouth; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
