Linda Kay (Boerboom) Oftedahl was born on June 8, 1947, in Marshall, MN, to Harry C. and Donna (Caron) Boerboom. She grew up on a farm outside of Ghent, attended St. Eloi Catholic School, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in Marshall. On June 29, 1969, she was married to Duane Oftedahl at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Linda worked various office jobs throughout her life, most recently with Oftedahl Insurance and The Travel Company.
More recently, Linda’s very active social calendar included starting her early mornings with a daily group phone call from her daughters on their commutes to work. Then off to the “Y” to join swim aerobics. Most days continued with coffee with the swim ladies and deciding which card games she wanted to get in on. She loved being social, and no matter how much her kids wanted her to join them in living in various locations around the United States to be closer to them, she refused to leave the amazing community and friends that she loved so much. Her kids had to settle for visits that never seemed long enough. It wasn’t ever too hard to convince Linda to get on a plane to travel the world. With trips all over the United States, UK, Norway, Italy, Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, Japan, Spain, Hawaii, and many winters spent in Mexico, there weren't many places she didn’t see in this world.
In September 2024, Linda was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She took the diagnosis in stride and continued to feel great throughout her treatments with The Avera Cancer Institute in Marshall. The aggressiveness of her myeloma was met with her determination for as long as her body allowed.
Linda passed peacefully with family by her side at her residence in Marshall on Saturday, April 26, 2025, under the care of Prairie Home Hospice. Her survivors include her son Dan Oftedahl (and Katherine Maruyama) of Denver, CO, grandsons JP, Carter and Michael, Jonathan and Alex; daughter Kris (and Chad) Burt of Walcott, IA, grandchildren Dillon, Layton and Makenna; son Ross (and Colby Raymond) of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Wendy Oftedahl (and Darien Moya) of Washington, DC, grandchildren Alexander, Julian and Aria; sister Cheryl Wyffels and sister-in-law Pam Somers; special extended family of Jennifer Oftedahl, one niece, several nephews, and way too many relatives and friends to list.
She was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, and her two brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice, Avera at Home Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
