Lourdes Francis Nuese was born on December 25, 1917, on a farm in Hendricks Township in Lincoln County, MN, to Frank and Alexina (Pillotte) Nuese. As a young child, he moved with his family to Marshall where he attended school and graduated from Marshall High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II working as a mechanic in Alaska and Oklahoma. In 1943, he was united in marriage to Florence Cooper at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. After his service, he returned to Marshall. He worked as a mechanic and shop foreman for OâConnell Motors. In the 1950s, he began working with auto sales for OâConnells and later for Antons, Tholens, and Marshall Auto Salvage. Lourdes enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, metal work, boats, motor cycles, old cars and guns. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His favorite question for his grandchildren was âHowâs your gizzard?â Lourdes was a member of the American Legion Post 113, and the Knights of Columbus.
He died on Friday, August 12, 2011, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, of Marshall, and children David (and Patsy) of Marshall, Kathryn (and Henry) Moore of Ellicott City, MD, Dennis (and Peggy) of Marshall, Duane (and Janet) of Marshall, 10 grandchildren; Shannon Moore Meyers, Dylan Moore, Nichole Nuese â Rasmussen, Lance Nuese, April Nuese Whites, Trisha Nuese, Heidi Koerselman, Danielle Nuese, Kailie Nuese Rhody, and Morgan Nuese, six great-grandchildren; Ryan Meyers, MacKenzie Meyers, Tayler Koerselman, Dominique Nuese, Jade Rhody, Asher Rhody, brother Terrance of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and a sister, Sister Candace of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
