Lovilla F. Schlenker age 91 of Balaton, MN died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 7, 2008 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Balaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton. Interment will be at the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Balaton. Lovilla Fay Schlenker was born March 4, 1917 to Willis and Emilie (Mitzner) Carpenter in Winona, MN. She was baptized in St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Winona and later confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. In 1925 she moved with her mother and brother, following her father’s death, to Balaton and attended country school. Soon after her mother’s death in 1932, Lovilla and her brother lived with Mr. and Mrs. Gust Mahlke in Balaton. On December 6, 1939 Lovilla married John Schlenker at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton. They made their home in Balaton for three years and then moved to a farm north of Balaton. In April of 2005 she moved to the Lakeview Senior Housing in Balaton and in March of 2008 became a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Lovilla was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton, where she served as organist for over sixty years. She was also active in the church Ladies Aid and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards, but most of all, spending time with her family. On Thursday, June 19, 2008 Lovilla died, surrounded by her loving family, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton at the age of 91. Lovilla is survived by her two sons, Jerry Schlenker of Balaton, MN and Dan Schlenker of Lakewood, CO; two daughters, Nadine (Ron) Langin of Marshall, MN and Bonnie (Steve) Remmele of Tomah, WI; two grandchildren, Leah (Brad) Facile and Mike (Heidi) Langin; five great grandchildren, Darrick, McKayla, Matthew, Emily and Bailey. Her husband, John, her parents, and brother, Gerald preceded her in death.
