Lucille VanMoorlehem

Lucille Mary (Lantgen) VanMoorlehem was born on June 1, 1922, on a farm in Kranzburg, SD, to Michael and Elizabeth (Cordell) Lantgen. She was baptized at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg and attended school at Holy Rosary and Immaculate Conception Schools in Watertown, SD. On December 31, 1941, she was united in marriage to Arthur Van Moorlehem in Watertown. During World War II, Lucille worked at International Harvester in Chicago. She bravely attended to her family of two little boys while her husband was missing in action as a POW in Germany. In 1949, the couple moved to Huron, SD. They later moved to Arlington, SD, where they raised four boys and one girl. Lucille gave a great deal of her time volunteering at her church and American Legion Club, teaching catechism and serving funeral lunches. For 30 years, she was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Arlington American Legion Club. She was known for furnishing large amounts of scalloped potatoes at funerals and church dinners. Lucille enjoyed serving coffee and cookies to her many friends as they stopped. She was known as a great rattle (euchre) player. The couple moved to Marshall in 2006. Lucille died on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. She is survived by her husband, Arthur, of Marshall, sons Dennis, Gordon, Edward and Brian, and daughter Jean, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and sister Betty. She was preceded in death by her parents and 11siblings.
