The funeral service for Luella Mattson, 98, of Minneota, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Minneota. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Hope Lutheran Cemetery. A recording of the service will be available later at www.horvathfuneralservice.com.
Luella Dorothy Orsen Mattson was born December 12, 1922, in Badger, MN, in Roseau County, to Alfred and Annie Orsen. She was baptized in Greenbush, MN, and confirmed at Hemnes Lutheran Church on October 15, 1937. Luella attended country school district 54, a one-room schoolhouse, then graduated from Minneota High School in 1941. On June 21, 1945, Luella was united in marriage to Newell Mattson at Hemnes Lutheran Church. The couple later joined Hope Lutheran Church. Luella lived in Badger for two years, then spent the rest of her life in Westerheim and Eidsvold townships. Luella was a member of Hope Lutheran Aid, Bible Study, and the Eidsvold club. She worked as a cook in the Minneota school cafeteria for 31 years, retiring May 31, 1988. Luella loved spending time with family, especially at family reunions. She enjoyed baking and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Luella liked mowing her lawn and sharing homemade jelly, jam, and baked goods with family and friends. She was also skilled at embroidery, gifting loved ones embroidered dish towels for important life events.
Luella died on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She is survived by her son-in-law Darrel Anderson; granddaughter Laurie (Greg) Castor, great-granddaughters Ella and Rosie; grandson Scott Anderson, great-grandsons Carter and Logan; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Newell Mattson, infant son Glen Mattson, and daughter Anita Anderson.
Luella was loved very much, and she will be greatly missed.
