A memorial service for Lyle Steenhoven, 68, of Balaton, will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Sillerud Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Lyle Jay Steenhoven was born on February 7, 1948, in Worthington, MN, to Arthur and Elva (Kruger) Steenhoven. He graduated from Greenway High School in 1967. Lyle then attended Vocational Technical School for Carpentry. After numerous jobs, he settled into farming in rural Russell, MN. He later purchased the Balaton Hardware and Lumber store. After selling this business, he worked as an owner/operator of a trucking business until he semi retired. Lyle enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He never turned down an opportunity to sing and he taught that love to his children and grandchildren. He made many trips to Alaska where he loved halibut fishing and camping.
Lyle always welcomed people to his home. The lucky ones were served a bowl of his famous cheeseburger soup.
Lyle died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He is survived by his children Jeff (and Thale) Steenhoven, Jamey (and Sue) Steenhoven and Crystal Mariner, brothers Howard (and Sandy) Steenhoven, Dale (and Rhonda) Steenhoven, Ray (and Eileen) Steenhoven, LeRoy Steenhoven, sisters Bev (and Loren) Stevens, Rhonda (and Carl) Barker, grandchildren Blake Steenhoven, Jade Steenhoven, Kaeleigh Lundberg, Brennen Mariner, Joseph Steenhoven, Jerrod Steenhoven, Joshua Steenhoven, Maddex Hewitt, great-grandchildren Julian and Evelynn Lundberg, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Elva Steenhoven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Heart Association.
