Mae Markell

Mae Lucille Markell was born on January 29, 1918, in Marshall, to Frank and Carrie (Claggett) Markell. She grew up and attended school in Marshall. Mae worked at the skating rink, the movie theater and Kay’s Shoes for several decades. She also volunteered at the hospital thrift shop. Mae was an avid garage sale and thrift shop shopper. She also enjoyed playing slot machines. Some of her favorite memories included trips to Las Vegas, especially if she was joined by her son, David. Mae passed away on November 13, 2010, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She was preceded in death by her son, David Markell, parents Carrie (Claggett) and Frank Markell, infant sister, Laura, brothers Glenn, Dail and Clifford, sisters-in-law Marie and Esther, step-grandson, Dusty Read. Mae is survived by her daughter-in-law, Bobbie Read Markell; step-grandson, Nick Read; niece, Virginia Markell and other dear relatives and friends.
