Marcus Lowell âMarcâ Wignes was born on August 6, 1925, in Eidsvold Township to John H. and Emma (Hansen) Wigness. He grew up on the family farm in Eidsvold Township. Marc enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 â 1946. He graduated from Minneota High School in 1948. On March 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marion DeRoode. Marc was a member of the American Legion, Engels-Wilson Post 564 of Ghent for more than 50 years and served as Commander for two terms. He was also a longtime volunteer firefighter in Ghent. Marc worked as a beer salesman for DeRoode Distributing and Grong Sales for many years. Marc and Marion owned and operated the M & M Corner in the 1960s and the M & M Café from 1980 â 1985. He worked for his daughter, Brenda, casually for 12 years. Marc enjoyed cribbage, reading and word puzzles. His children and grandchildren were especially important to him.
Marc died on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at the Minnesota Veteranâs Home in Luverne, MN. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Swoboda of Marshall, grandchildren Bree (and Scott) Anderson of Minneota, Chris (and Laura) Swoboda, Nikki (and Ben) Theisen, and families, son John Wignes (and Darla Renneke) of Sioux Falls, SD, grandchildren Cade and Shaina, son Robert "Fuzzy" (and Shawna Ruby) Wignes of Sioux City, IA, grandson Chad, great-grandchildren Carter and Logan, honorary daughter Lori Head, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John H and Emma, wife Marion, son-in-law Doug Swoboda, siblings Warren Wigness, Vivian Krohling, Gloria Kjorness, Orville Wigness, Donald Wigness, Arby Wigness.
