Margaret Mary (Gruhot) Chaput was born on March 28, 1918, in Tracy, to Frank and Elizabeth (Kopolczynski) Gruhot. She was baptized in Tracy, received first communion and confirmed at Wilno. On September 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Chaput of Clyde, Kansas, at Wilno. The couple had four children: Robert (Norma), twins Marlene (Mrs. Tom Witt,) Mary (Mrs. William Gray,) Romona (Mrs. Ron DeVries.) The family farmed near Ivanhoe for a time before moving to Marshall in 1950. Margaret was a homemaker and greatly enjoyed playing cards. She was a very good bridge and âhand and footâ player. Margaret was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed time with her family.
Margaret died on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall after a very brief illness.
She is survived by her children Robert (and Norma) Chaput of St. Paul, Marlene (and Thomas) Witt of Severn, MD, Mona (and Ron) DeVries of Marshall, grandchildren Brian (and Jenny) Chaput, Michael (and Gretchen) Chaput, Kimberly Witt, Stacy (and Chad) Hennis, Elizabeth (and Brian) Luepke, Adam Gray, Christopher (and Erica) DeVries, Matthew (and Ashley) DeVries, great-grandchildren Derreck, Mackenna, Jacob, Brendon, Jaxon, Keelyn, Alexander, Jonathon, and Andrew, sister Sophie Sumerfelt of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, daughter Mary, grandson Lt. Thomas Lloyd Witt, siblings Louis, Vincent, Raymond and Katherine.
