Margaret Madeline (Laleman) Stassen was born on October 2, 1932, in Ypsilanti, ND, to Leon and Alice (VanLerberghe) Laleman. As a young girl, she moved with her family to a farm near Green Valley. She attended school and graduated from Marshall High School. On August 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to Eugene Stassen at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. The couple farmed and raised their family north of Marshall. In 1994, they retired and moved to Marshall. Margaret enjoyed socializing; playing cards, visiting with her friends, especially at the Marshall Senior Center, and going to the casino (where she was quite lucky!) She also enjoyed gardening and shopping. She was a longtime member of St. Eloi Catholic Church. Her faith was very important to her and the rosary was a very special devotion. She enjoyed a very meaningful trip to Medjugorje with her brother, Andy, and niece, Julie Family was also very important to Margaret and she coordinated and enjoyed many family gatherings.
Margaret died on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the Avera Morningside Care Center in Marshall. She is survived by her children LuAnn Feser of Aurora, SD, Robert (and Tamara) Stassen of Marshall, Linda (and John) Nuese of Sioux Falls, SD, Janet (and Tim) Sumerfelt of Minneota, Gary (and Michelle) Stassen of Marshall, Denis (and Connie) Stassen of Newton, KS, Nancy (and Tom) Rasmussen of Sioux Falls, SD, Connie (and Jerry) Martin of St. Michael, MN, Randy Stassen of Newton, KS, 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, brother Andrew Laleman of Marshall, brother-in-law Louis Buysse of Minneota, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, siblings Joe (and Theresa), George (and Alice) and Mary Buysse, and sister-in-law Florine Laleman.
