Margaret Madaline (DeCock) Wambeke was born on November 28, 1909, in Ghent, MN, to Alphonse and Celesta (Van Hecke) DeCock. At the age of ten, her parents moved to a farm south of Minneota. She was Baptized, received First Communion and Confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Margaret attended Rural School in District 77. On April 17, 1928, she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Wambeke at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 17, 1978. In 1960, they retired from farming and moved into Minneota. Margaret enjoyed traveling and went on many tours. She enjoyed playing cards at the senior center and sewed a quilt for each of her 44 grandchildren as well as many other family members.
Margaret died on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.
She is survived by her children Dorothy (and Gaston) Vlaminck of Minneota, Joseph (and Pauline)Wambeke of Minneota, Marian (and Eugene, deceased) Dau of Juneau, AK, Jean (and Darrill) Miller of Mankato, James (and Jean) Wambeke of Minneota, Gloria (and Joseph) Lanners of Pierz, MN, Richard (and Janet) Wambeke of Granite Falls, Mary (and Lee) Neuman of Cottonwood, William (and Donna) Wambeke of Pillager, MN, Dennis (and Judy) Wambeke of Minneota, 44 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother, 2 sons-in-law; Bob Hornstein and Eugene Dau, 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother Henry DeCock and sister Stella Bottelberghe.
