Marian B. Kopperud age 87 of Walnut Grove, MN, formerly of Westbrook, MN, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook. Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, rural Westbrook. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Westbrook. Interment will be in the Old Westbrook Lutheran Cemetery, with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial. The Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook is handling the arrangements.
Marian Bernice Kooperud was born May 29, 1926 to Emil C. and Kilkea "Katie" (Raveling) Otto on a farm in Johnsonville Township, near Lucan, MN, Redwood County. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church of Johnsonville on June 27, 1926 and confirmed on June 29, 1941. Marian attended Johnsonville Township Country School, then Walnut Grove Public Schools, graduating from Walnut Grove High School, on her birthday, May 29, 1944. Upon graduation, she moved to St. Paul, MN to work at the St. Paul Munitions Plant as a payroll clerk until the end of WWII in 1945. She then moved back to southwest Minnesota to her parents' home in Tracy, MN, where she worked as a secretary for the Algyer Law Office in Tracy until she was married.
On June 7, 1947, Marian married Konrad H. Kopperud at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tracy. They made their home near Westbrook, MN on Konrad's brother Marlin's place for a short time, then to a farm near Walnut Grove, before moving to their own farm in 1950, north of Westbrook in Ann Township. They remained on the farm until June of 2013 when they moved into the Country View Sr. Living Community in Walnut Grove, MN.
Marian will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Her faith and her church also were a very big part of her life. She was a member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church for nearly 70 years. She was active in Ladies Aid and WELCA, Circle, taught Sunday School, and was the church historian for many years. Marion enjoyed quilting with the ladies at church for Lutheran World Relief and also made many quilts for her family. She also enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, and keeping up with her children's many activities. Marian was a member of Garden Club, Home Extension, and was a 4-H leader while her children were active.
Recently, Marian became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook, where she died Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the age of 87, with her loving husband and her son at her side. The family is grateful also for the attendance of their pastor at the time of her death.
Marian is survived by her husband of 66 years, Konrad Kopperud of Walnut Grove, MN; one son, Dennis (Karen) Kopperud of Westbrook, MN; three daughters, Lynette (Warren Wollenberg) Kopperud of Edina, MN, Julie (Dean) Okins of Santa Crus, CA, and Rev. Barbara (Jim Borden) Kopperud of Sibley, IA; five grandchildren, Irina (Chris) Gebhardt of LaCrosse, WI, Alex Borden of Edina, MN, John Holbrook of Marshall, MN, Jay (Stacy) Holbrook of St. Bonifacius, MN, and Kellie (Curt) Parker of Revere, MN; five great grandchildren, Alisha, Jacob, Hannah, Ellie and Will; sister-in-law, Mildred Otto of Tracy, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her parents, two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.
