Marvin Edward Davis was born on April 6, 1935, in Marshall, to George and Lena (Istas) Davis. He grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. After two years at St. Johnâs University, Marv enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Marshall. On August 13, 1960, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Madden. To this union was born daughter Genell. Marv worked as a Supervisor for Distribution for the Minneapolis Star & Tribune for 7 years. For 18 years he worked as a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After his retirement, he worked with special needs children as a Para-Professional in the Marshall School District. Marvâs special enjoyments included camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and senIor woodworking class. Every Christmas, he made candy and cookies to give to friends and neighbors. He was a caring and dedicated husband, father and son. He was also a dedicated son and visited his mother daily.
Marv died on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of Marshall, daughter Genell (and Dan) Hausauer of Alexandria, VA, mother Lena Davis of Marshall, brothers Dennis (and Yvonne) of Huron, SD, George (and CaThy) of Paynesville, Doug (and Lynn) of Foley, MN, Merlin (and Mary) of Minneapolis and sister Pat (and Richard) Fischer of Highlands Ranch, CO, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father George H. Davis, Sr. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to charity of the donorâs choice.
