Mary Margaret Bailey was born on May 26, 1940, in Indianapolis, IN, to Fred and Marguerite (Hicks) Bailey. She grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from high school. In 1959, she met David Barber. The couple married in 1961 and moved to a farm near Milroy. They later moved to town and raised their sons, Allen and Brian. Mary worked for Marshall Produce for a short time and later Control Data (which became Zytec) in Redwood Falls. In 1998, Mary moved to Granite Falls where she worked for the Casino. On November 7, 1998, she married Wayne Read at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Mary was a dedicated Sunday School teacher in Milroy. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, crocheting and crafts. She was very passionate about her pets. The most important part of her life was time with her grandchildren.
Mary died comfortably, surrounded by family, on Friday, September 7, 2012, at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital due to heart failure.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Read, of Granite Falls, son Allen (and Nicole) Barber of Tyler, Brian (and Darla) Barber of Sioux Falls, grandchildren Brian âBJâ, Kaitlyn, and Carissa, step-grandchildren Sadie, Victoria, Lydia, Maddy, and Tenley Read, siblings Louise Hogan of Indianapolis, Lucille Schubert of Chicago, Barb Roman of Shelbyville, IN, and twin brother James Robert Bailey of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill and sister Joann Lucas.
