Maurie Lee Hovland was born December 20, 1935 in Gary, SD to Alvin and Edna (Dillon) Hovland. He attended Minneota school and began driving truck for Hovland Trucking, Al Keim, Floyd Wild and Midwest Coast. In 1958 he was drafted into the US Army for 2 years and honorably discharged as a PFC. He began meat cutting for Finneganâs of Minneota, also in George, IA, Bird Island, and Olivia, MN, where he lived for the last 25 years. Maurie also worked for Blackbourne and Quality Seed Co in Olivia and after retirement did various odd jobs, painting, mowing, and refurbishing mowers that people gave up on.
Maurie died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital from pneumonia and cancer.
Maurie is survived by Lyle of Taunton, Lennis (Arlyss) of Marshall, Tom of Minneota, Sheryl (Butch) Kaas of Minneota, Mark (Jeanette) of Minneota, 8 nephews and nieces, 10 aunts and uncles, and special friend Marcella Bauman of Olivia. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1983.
