Mavis T. Anderson age 85 of Westbrook, MN died Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook. Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 31, 2009 at Our Saviorâs Lutheran Church in Dovray, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Westbrook, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at the Our Saviorâs Lutheran Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook is handling the arrangements.
Mavis Thelma Anderson was born March 12, 1924 to Knudt and Johanna (Kirchner) Amundson on the Amundson family farm near Dovray, MN in Murray County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Saviorâs Lutheran Church in Dovray. She attended country school and later Westbrook High School where, at the age of 16, she graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1940. Although she was accepted at Augustana College, both of her parents were ill and Mavis cared for them in their home. She deeply enjoyed singing in a womenâs quartet for several years, with her high school friends, Grace, Ardis and Moina.
On June 2, 1948 Mavis married Elmer J. Anderson in Dovray at Our Saviorâs Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm near Westbrook, MN and lived there until 1998, when they moved into Westbrook. Mavis was a great wife, mother and grandmother, and also a super volunteer, both in her church and community. She was a life long member of Our Saviorâs Lutheran Church, where she served various positions in ALCW and WELCA, was Sunday School Superintendent for several years and was involved in reading groups. Mavis was a charter member in the Westbrook Hospital Auxiliary and actively involved, from its conception till it disbanded. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, music, baking church work, Bible study and worship services.
In February of 2009 Mavis became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook, where she died Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the age of 85.
Mavis is survived by her husband, Elmer Anderson of Westbrook, MN; two daughters, Michal (Patrick) Anderson-Lowther of Sleepy Eye, MN and Marti (Michael Silberman) Anderson of Bangkok, Thailand; three sons, Erling (Julie) Anderson of Plymouth, MN, Karl (Rosie) Anderson of Scotts Valley, CA and Paul (Mia Cisek) Anderson of Seattle, WA; twelve grandchildren, Laurel and Briana Anderson, Emily, Alison and Ian Lowther, Jacob and Jared Anderson, Ian and Andre Silberman, Lyra Anderson, and Axel and Elsa Anderson; two brothers, Lewis (Helen) Amundson of Westbrook, MN and Jerome (Evelyn) Amundson of Minnetonka, MN; one sister-in-law, Darlene Amundson of Westbrook, MN; many nieces, nephews and a great many friends.
Her parents, and one brother, Aron Amundson preceded her in death.
