Mavis Johnson age 77 of Balaton, MN died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her home in Balaton. Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Victory Christian Church in Balaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, August 22, 2010 also at the church, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.
Mavis Elaine Johnson was born on June 29, 1933 to Walter and Anna (Rasmussen) Fuhrmann in Florence, MN. She lived in Tyler for a short time before moving to Balaton in 1941. While in school she worked at Tenhoff Drug along with her sisters. She graduated from Balaton High School in 1951.
Mavis married Everette Eugene Johnson at Zion Lutheran Church on April 12, 1952. They resided in Augusta, GA and Colorado Springs, CO while Everette served in the army from 1952 â 1954. After returning to Balaton, Mavis worked as a bookkeeper for Farmers Co-op Creamery, Stewart Concrete, Colonial Manor and Glenn Larson Plumbing and Repair, along with their own farm operation. Three sons were born to this union, Evan, Lonny, and Terry.
Mavis was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. She grew up in the First Presbyterian Church, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and later Victory Christian Church. She taught Sunday School for years and volunteered her time as treasurer of Balaton Community Churches as well as Victory Christian Church. Mavis and Everette sold their farm and moved to town in May 2004. Mavis had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with friends and family. She was a devoted grandmother.
Mavis was diagnosed with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) in 2005. She was cared for, in her home, by a wonderful and dedicated group of caregivers. Mavis passed away on August 19, 2010 in her home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 77.
Mavis is survived by her husband of 58 years, Everette Johnson of Balaton, MN; three sons, Evan (Pamela) Johnson of Balaton, MN, Lonny (Diane) Johnson of Balaton, MN, and Terry (Julie) Johnson of Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandchildren, Melissa (Cory) Dudgeon, Evar Johnson, Brita Johnson, Travis (Holly) Johnson, Christopher Johnson, and Sarah Johnson; and one step-granddaughter Alisha Duthoy; four great grandsons, Cade, Caleb, and Braxton Dudgeon and Chase Johnson; three sisters, Opal (Warner) Johnson of Littleton, CO, Beva (Bob) Walters of Balaton, MN, and Lila (Bruce) Priebe of Edina, MN; nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Gretchen Grace Johnson.
