Maxine Eleanor (Gruhot) St. Aubin was born on December 24, 1929, in Marshall, to Max and Lottie (Przymus) Gruhot. Maxine grew up on the family farm near Ivanhoe and graduated from Ivanhoe High School. While working as a practical nurse at the hospital, Maxine met Louis St. Aubin. The couple was married on September 5, 1950, at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno. They farmed and raised their family south of Marshall. Maxine embraced her role as a farmer’s wife, including cooking, baking, and keeping a large garden. She grew flowers and many vegetables, which were frozen, canned, or sold on the side of road. In her free time, Maxine enjoyed square dancing with Louis, and in her later years she was part of a card club. Maxine volunteered her time with different organizations, including 4H and many years at the food shelf. She also enjoyed traveling on bus trips and mystery tours.
