Melvin H. Bauer age 84 of Winthrop, MN, formerly of Tracy, MN died on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Hospice Of The Valley â Arbor Home in Mesa, Arizona. A Memorial service is planned for 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Tracy. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
Melvin H. Bauer, DDS was born April 29, 1924 in Tracy, Minnesota in Redwood County to Arvene and Ruth Bauer. He had one brother, Virgel. He was raised on a farm outside of Tracy, attended the local country elementary school and graduated from Tracy High School in 1942. He went straight to the University of Minnesota after he graduated. In 1949 he graduated from Dental School. During college, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he married Lois Helen Clark.
After College, Melvin went on to live and practice dentistry in Winthrop, Minnesota where he received the Minnesota Dental Associationâs Golden Service Award for fifty years of service.
People could often find Melvin Bauer striding amongst his garden, taking especial pride in his day lilies, gladiolas, mums and roses. He also collected antiques, especially art glass. Along with his green thumb he possessed a wonderfully dry wit, a friendly smile, and a rosy demeanor. When cleaning strawberries, he often snuck them to his grandchildren.
Melvin died on January 31, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 84.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Lois; one daughter, Resa Bauer of Mesa, AZ; two sons, Bert Bauer of Darwin, MN and Bruce Bauer of Watertown, SD; many grandchildren, Anissa McFarland, Sherise Jurries, Justin and Kelly DeMeyere, and Barrett and Bridget Bauer, and five great-grand children.
His parents, and one brother, Virgel, preceded him in death.
