Michael Ryan Afdem was born on January 19, 1990, in St. Cloud, MN. He was adopted by David and Jane (Novotny) Afdem. Michael attended grade school at St. Edward Catholic School in Minneota and graduated from Marshall High School. He attended Southwest Minnesota State University for a year. For the last two years, Michael has been living in Madison, WI, where he worked as a Social Services Care Giver at Dungarvin.
Michael was a very creative and unique individual. He was unafraid to be himself and step outside of many peoplesâ âboundaries.â Michael was proud of his performance skills which included acting in Community Theater, contact juggling and other street performances. Michael had a thirst for knowledge and enjoyed reading, especially science fiction, âGame of Thronesâ and other adventure novels. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family. One recent highlight was a Caribbean Cruise with his immediate and extended family. He will be remembered for his caring and generous spirit. He was a friend to all, especially those most in need.
Michael died unexpectedly at his residence in Madison on Monday, July 1, 2013. He is survived by his parents David and Lori Afdem of Marshall, brother John Afdem of Marshall, step-sisters Janelle Duthoy of Sioux Falls, Kirsten French of Clarkfield, Regan (and Marc) Cragmile of Ghent, Danielle French of Marshall, nieces and nephew Haley, Mikayla, Paige, Cannon, Ava and Reice, special friend Hannah Abel of Madison, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, relatives, friends and his loving cat, Margot. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Afdem, grandparents Rich and Gloria Novotny, Henry and Dorothy Afdem, Arden and Jolaine Tweeten, Aunts Susan Swedzinski, Kathy Rafnson and cousin Logan Rafnson.
