Mass of Christian Burial for Michael Smishek will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 18, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Michael John Smishek, age 74, of Marshall died at his home on Sunday, June 14, 2020.
Michael was born on September 8, 1945, to Harry and Stella (Lubinski) Smishek in Marshall. He attended school in Minneota, Faribault and Owatonna and returned to Minneota after finishing school. He worked in Redwood Falls for several years and ultimately settled down in Marshall where he worked at Advance Opportunities. Michael loved trips to see his family and participating in Special Olympics. He was an avid reader and a master with mechanical deconstruction. He loved to watch the Minnesota Twins and both the Minneota and Minnesota Vikings. Michael also loved to shop for treasures including cards, dominoes, pens and books. He loved all things related to trains and going for car rides and exploring historic sites.
Michael is survived by his nieces, nephews, sister-in-law and extended family: David, Brian and Neal Smishek, Danna Smishek, Darcy, Kyle and Jared Cline, Jason Smishek; Judith (Donald) Smishek and Stuart and Amy Smishek; Jane, Mike, Jacquelyn, McKenna and Justin Schwarz and Josslyn, Drew, Owen and Waylon Gulden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard, and sister-in-law, Harriet, and his brother, Donald.
Michael was a true joy to everyone who knew him. We will always miss his smiling face and toothy grin. Heaven has welcomed another Angel.
