Mildred Minnie Foster was born January 14, 1912 to George and Adelheid (Weber) Kosel on a farm near Sanborn, MN, Redwood County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of five, Mildred lost her hearing and later attended school at the Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault, MN.
On July 12, 1934 Mildred married William J. Foster at the Redman Farm, who were neighbors to his family farm. They made their home on the Foster farm until Williamâs death in 1982. Mildred then moved to the Twin Circle Apartments in Tracy. In 1993 she bought a home in Tracy and lived there until she became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home in 2005.
Mildred enjoyed sewing, embroidery and crocheting. While on the farm she always raised ducks and geese and also enjoyed gardening. Mildred was member of a group that consisted of other deaf individuals from around southwestern Minnesota that met on a regular basis.
In December of 2006 Mildred became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy where she died Friday, February 22, 2008 at the age of 96.
Mildred is survived by her one son, John Foster of Brooklyn Center, MN; two daughters, Min (Dick) Verstraete of Anaconda, MT and Elly (Howie) Greenman of Tracy, MN; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Alveda Myhre of Hawick, MN, Ellen Glimpse of Moline, IL and Ila (Linus) Suess of Hector, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents, husband, William, daughter-in-law, Lorna Foster, two brothers, Leonard and Herb, four sisters, Dorothy, Lucinda, Henrietta and Ann, four brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law preceded her in death.
