Mildred Lucille (Johnson) Mootz was born on September 12, 1914, in Minneota, to Magnus and Alida (Amundson) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Minneota. In 1932, she was united in marriage to Nicholas Mootz. The couple traveled with the Davey Tree Company in the East Coast for a few years before returning to Minneota where they opened and operated the Minneota Greenhouse. Millie also worked as a cook at the school, as a clerk at Gambles, and after her husbandâs death, she worked for many years as a housekeeper for Father John Pearson. Millie was active in her community. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary, was active in the St. Edward Choir and sang with the Sweet Adelines. Millie died on Monday, June 1, 2008, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.
She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne (Donald) Stienessen of Belle Plaine, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, brother Ambros (Sonja) Johnson of Aiken, MN, sister Rebecca Bell of Sheridan, WY, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Nick, son Jerry, sisters Ethel Ferguson, Rachel LaPolice and Ellen McDowell and brother Daniel Johnson.
