Myril Gus Thooft was born on December 2, 1957, in Tyler, to Harry and LaVaune (Schreurs) Thooft. He grew up on a farm near Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1976. Myril attended Pipestone Vocational Technical School for one year. In 1979, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Sik at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno. The couple made their home in rural Lynd. Myril worked as a self-employed carpenter. He was a very talented wood worker and enjoyed projects of all sizes. He built a home-made saw mill and created numerous cabinets, furniture and other items. Myril was talented in other areas as well. He could build, create or fix just about anything. He truly had a heart for service and was always willing to help others. Myril and Evelyn enjoyed family get-togethers, road trips, camping, bicycling and he was very fond of his cats. Myril died suddenly as the result of an apparent heart attack on Monday, August 06, 2012.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, who was very blessed to have shared his life for 33 years, Evelyn, of rural Lynd; other survivors: mother LaVaune Thooft of rural Russell, siblings Carolyn (and Ken) Lindsay of Albertville, Gary (and Deb) Thooft of Russell, Steven (and Nancy Jean) Thooft of rural Russell, Janice (and Larry) Bornitz of Garvin, Marlowe (and Nancy Anne) Thooft of Russell, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and infant brother, Neil.
