Myrna Luella Christensen Anderson

Myrna L. (Christensen) Anderson age 97, of Balaton, MN died Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Garvin Congregational Church in Garvin, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A luncheon will be served in the church social hall immediately following the service and the Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery, following the luncheon. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangement. Myrna Luella (Christensen) Anderson was born December 28, 1916 to John and Edith (Schaffer) Melligan at their farm home near Walnut Grove, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended rural schools, graduating from Walnut Grove High School in June 1936. On April 6, 1938 Myrna was married to Earl Christensen at the Nettiewyynt Methodist Church in Gales Township, Redwood County. They farmed near Amiret till March 1941, when they moved to a farm near Garvin. Earl passed away in July of 1942. On April 14, 1945 Myrna married Harold Anderson. They were members of the Garvin Congregational Church, where both taught Sunday School and took part in many different organizations of the church. Myrna enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, playing cards, quilting and embroidery. She was a 4-H leader for many years, and she belonged to the Tracy Nursing Home Auxiliary, Degree of Honor Lodge, and the Garvin Senior Citizens. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and their families. In 1956 Myrna joined Stanley Home Products. She worked as a sales representative until 1986, earning many awards and trips for sales work. Harold and Myrna moved from their farm to Lakeview Senior Housing in Balaton in 2007. In November 2013 Myrna became a patient at the Colonial Manor in Balaton. Myrna went to be with the Lord, January 3rd, 2014, at the age of 97, after loving care by nurses and staff at Balaton Colonial Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice. Myrna is survived by her three children: David (Judith Sheridan-Christensen) Christensen of Pipestone, MN, Dennis (Marilyn) Christensen of Garvin, MN and Donna Miller of Balaton, MN; seven grandchildren: Denise (Sylvan) TeKrony, Scott (Julie) Christensen, Randy (Kara) Miller, Eric Christensen, Cathy (Randy) Scheid, Mary (Dan) Texidor, Karen (Paul) Harrison; and five great grandchildren: Andrew, Kelsey, and Jay Christensen, Veronica and Evelyn Scheid. Her parents, both husbands, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and one grandson, three brothers, and two sisters preceded her in death.
