Funeral service for Myron âVinceâ Banks, 79, of Lynd, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2011, at First Lutheran Church of Marshall. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. â 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Rehkamp â Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 1:00 p.m. â 2:00 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church. Interment will follow the service at the Russell Cemetery in Russell, MN.
Myron Vincent Banks was born on December 18, 1931, at home on the family farm in rural Lynd. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Myron grew up and graduated from Lynd High School where he participated with football, basketball and track. After farming with his family for a few years, Myron enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the farm in Lynd. On June 30, 1963, he was united in marriage to Doris âDoriâ Olson at St. Paulâs Lutheran Church in Jewell, IA. They raised their family and farmed in the same location in Lynd where Myron was born and eventually died. In 2009, the Banks Brothers celebrated 100 years of farming the Coteau Farms. Myron retired that year but remained passionate about farming and continued to help his son, Kevin, with the operation. Myron also enjoyed following his grandchildrenâs activities, reading, gardening and watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church of Marshall.
Myron died peacefully on Tuesday, June, 14, at his life-long residence in rural Lynd, after a short battle with cancer.
He is survived by his children Kevin (and Kim) Banks of Lynd, Kari (and Phil) Buysse of Marshall, grandchildren Andrew, Alex, Jacob and Lauren Buysse and Owen Banks, brother Perry (and Marquita) Banks of Lynd and sisters Catherine (and Dr. L.W. ) Jacobson of Bloomington, Irene (and Jess) Nelson of Ft. Collins, CO, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Edith, father Charles, step-mother Adina and his wife, Dori, who preceded him in death 24 years ago this month.
