Myron Vincent Banks was born on December 18, 1931, at home on the family farm in rural Lynd. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Myron grew up and graduated from Lynd High School where he participated with football, basketball and track. After farming with his family for a few years, Myron enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the farm in Lynd. On June 30, 1963, he was united in marriage to Doris “Dori” Olson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jewell, IA. They raised their family and farmed in the same location in Lynd where Myron was born and eventually died. In 2009, the Banks Brothers celebrated 100 years of farming the Coteau Farms. Myron retired that year but remained passionate about farming and continued to help his son, Kevin, with the operation. Myron also enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities, reading, gardening and watching the Minnesota Twins. He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church of Marshall. Myron died peacefully on Tuesday, June, 14, at his life-long residence in rural Lynd, after a short battle with cancer.
