The funeral service for Omar W. Johnson, 95, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
Omar William Johnson was born on March 13, 1929, in Urness Township, MN, to John and A. Marion (Lea) Johnson. Omar served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, stationed in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He was proud to have gone on an honor flight with his brother, Douglas. Omar purchased Johnson’s Paint and Wallpaper in Marshall in 1971, and worked there for 44 years. Many homes in Marshall display the custom picture frames he crafted over the years. In 1996, Omar married Barb Bushard, and which greatly enriched his life until she passed in 2009. The couple was very social, enjoying many activities. Omar enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing cards at the Senior Center.
Omar died on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center. He is survived by his children Renee (Mark) DeAustin of Marshall, Diane DuBray of Rapid City, SD, Mark (Janet) Johnson of Apple Valley, CA, and Linnea (Al) Roos of Angle Inlet; grandchildren Cecelia, John, Chad, Wade, Walker, Brianne, their spouses and great-grandchildren; brother Douglas (Elaine) Johnson and sister Audrey Hermanson; and step-children Lisa, Tori, Amy, spouses, children, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Mayo, Laurel, and Vernon; sister Donna; love of his life Barb Bushard Johnson; son-in-law Charles DuBray; and step-son Pat Bushard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Avera Morningside Heights and Avera @ Home Hospice for their exceptional care of Omar during the last years of his life.
