Pearl C. Moon, age 92 of Tracy, MN died Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montivideo, MN. Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 7:00m PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning. Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery, with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial. The Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy is handling the arrangements.
Pearl Cora Moon was born March 1, 1920 to George and Christine (Tusty) Haugen in Shetek Township, Murray County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Willow Lake Lutheran Church and attended District #47 Country School for eight years, before attending Tracy High School, graduating in 1938. As a young woman Pearl worked for some of her neighbors as a housekeeper.
On May 1, 1940 Pearl married John Moon at the Walnut Grove Lutheran parsonage. They lived on the Moon home farm near Amiret, MN until 1960, when they purchased a farm closer to Tracy. Farming there until 1989, when they moved into town. They moved into OâBrien Court in 2007. Pearl was a housewife and a mother of two, but also worked as an assistant librarian in the Tracy City Library for many years.
She was a past member of the Willow Lake Lutheran Church, the Amiret Methodist church and a current member of the Tracy Lutheran Church, where she was very active over the years, in Circle, Ladies Aid and Bible Study. Pearl was a woman of strong faith and continued her daily devotionals throughout her whole life. She was a member of the Monroe Friendship Club since 1981. She enjoyed reading, crosswords and other word puzzles, game shows, such as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and many of the old classic television programs. Pearl also enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flower, canning everything that came from her garden, and cooking for family, for which she will always be remembered as a great cook. At family reunions she was known for her fresh lemon meringue pie and rice pudding.
On January 11, 2013 Pearl passed away at the Montevideo Hospital/Luther Haven Care Center in Montevideo, MN, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 92.
Pearl is survived by her son, John (Patty Hahn) Moon of Montevideo, MN; daughter, Christine (Dennis) Dostal of Berthoud, CO; eight grandchildren, Jason Kirk, Jacqueline Peters, Andrew Moon, Jenece Diedrich, John âJTâ Moon III, Anthony Dostal, Brandi Iglesias, and Crystal Lowery; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Doris (Norman) Cote of Slayton, MN; brother, Lindy (Clarice) Haugen of Currie, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.
Her husband, John, her parents, four sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
