Phillip Deutz

d. February 10, 2011

Phillip James Deutz was born on June 2, 1964, in Marshall, to James and Mary (VanUden) Deutz. After James’ death in 1970, Mary later married Lyle Bump who became Phillip’s dad until his death in 1992. He was a happy young man who always dreamed of being a farmer and driving a black pick-up truck and a black motorcycle. He was the first special education student to participate in the graduation ceremony at Marshall High School after completing his formal education. When he was young, Phillip participated in the Special Olympics one mile run event. He was a jokester and enjoyed pulling tricks on the Habilitative Services staff at Willow Street in Marshall. He also enjoyed following the Vikings. Phillip loved family gatherings and could eat everything available. Phillip died on Thursday, February 10, 2011, peacefully in his sleep at his home in Marshall. He is survived by his mother Mary Bump of Marshall, sister Kathy (and Armando) Rugama, their children Adam, Alena, Raul, Natalia, brother Dean (and Sheri) Deutz of Edina, their chidren Abigail, Laura and Hannah, sister Linda (and John) Haugen of Deephaven, their children Lukas, Truman, Isaac and Estelle, sister Ali (and Scott) Beekman, of Marshall, their children Amanda, Danielle and Mackenzie, sister Lisa (and Remi) Raphael of San Diego, CA, their daughter Isla, brother Jason Bump of Port Huron, MI, his children Brent and Alyssa, sister Lori (and Travis) Bosacker of Monticello, their children Ethan, Gabrielle and Campbell. He is also survivied by wonderful uncles, aunts and cousins too numerous to count. He was preceded in death by his father, James Deutz, in 1970, his dad, Lyle Bump, in 1992, and grandparentsFrank and Augusta Deutz, Hubert and Deborah VanUden, Ivan and Mary Bump. Please pray and rejoice for Phil as he leads us to heaven with: listening to his favorite song (The Lion Sleeps Tonight,) wearing a baseball hat (go Bikings – Phillip’s V always came out a B) and his big smile that would light up a room and make you smile with him.
