Raymond Joseph Fier was born on December 5, 1920, on the family farm in Alta Vista Township to Walter and Antoinette (Tykwinski) Fier. Ray lived and farmed on this location his entire life. He was passionate about farming, especially his sheep. Ray served on the Alta Vista Township Board for 51 years and was past-chairman. On June 22, 1948, Ray was united in marriage to Isabelle Van Den Broeke at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton. Rayâs faith was important to him. He served his church as lector, frequently prayed the rosary and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. Ray also enjoyed athletics, especially following his grandchildrenâs activities. In later years, Ray and Isabelle enjoyed square dancing and belonged to the Jolly Mixers. Ray lived independently on his farm until the last three months of his life. He died on Monday, October 29, 2007, at the Sioux Valley Canby Campus. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle, of Taunton, children Joe (JoAnn) of Taunton, Sharon of St. Louis Park, Mike (LuAnn) of Minneota, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister MaryAnn Thornton of Eugene, OR, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Michael Paul, grandson Neil, brothers Edward, Floyd, Donald, and Erwin.
