Reed Stevens

Reed Daniel Stevens was born on Thursday, June 15, 1995 to Daniel and Kandy (Noles) Stevens. His parents still remember bringing him home in a car seat that was too big for the tiny 7 lb boy. As the years went on, Reed was always a curious boy, and he could name every dinosaur by the time he was two years old. In kindergarten, he prayed the prayer of salvation to ask Jesus into his heart, and he has continued to let His light shine. Throughout his life, he loved to learn. One of the greatest gifts he was ever given was the love of reading by his 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Bockelmann. It was common to hear his brother, Sawyer, tell him "Reed, get your nose out of a book." He and his family enjoyed meeting authors and going to opening nights for certain book sales. At the age of 8 years old, He was diagnosed with a debilitating eye condition that could ultimately cause him to go blind. Rather than focus on the negative, he realized that God must have some great plan for his life to give someone so small such a condition. Being the true bookworm, he went around spouting medical terminology; so, his parents got him a puppy, Huck, to remind him that he was still a little boy. His dog was one of his very best friends. Over the years, he participated in many different sports including football, basketball, golf, tennis, and competitive swimming. He LOVED football and was proud that he started the entire season at left guard. Reed was active in his church's AWANA and Youth group. He was active in the Swan Lake Skippers 4-H Club, earning his first blue ribbon at the State Fair last year. He was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 320 where he attained 2nd class status just this month. He was an A student at Lakeview School where he was involved in various activities including Art Club, Math Counts, Knowledge Bowl, Speech Team, and Band/Choir. Reed’s family will always remember his ability to make them laugh, his positive attitude, his love of Stars Wars and superheroes, his special ways with animals, and his love of family movie nights. Reed loved the Minnesota Twins, and was a huge fan of Lew Ford and Bert Blyleven. He was so proud that Bert remembered him at TwinsFest which he faithfully attended with his family. He convinced his family to wait on a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame until either Roger Maris or Bert Blyleven were inducted. Everyone who knew Reed well will remember him for his smile. Reed went home to Jesus on Tuesday, February 19 along with three other Lakeview Lakers who rode home on Lakeview Bus 5. He is survived by his parents, Dan and Kandy, his brother, Sawyer, and sisters, Erin and Cloie; grandparents, David and Sheran Noles, Lorraine Stevens, Honorary Grandparents; Beulah Lavoie, Phillip and Rhoda Nelson, great-grandmothers; Cloie Noles and Katie Campbell, Honorary Great-Grandmother; Vivian Nelson, Aunts and Uncles; Mary Peterson, Bryan and Rita Britsch, Lori Nelsen, Davy and Jennie Noles, Kelli Noles and Doug Indrunas, Honorary Aunts and Uncles; Sheldon and Karla Adams, Bryan Arzdorf, Anita Arzdorf, Sarah Sik, Troy and Amy Womack, Paul & Paula Rabaey, Godparents; Bryan and Michelle Abernathey, Cousins Derek Anderson, April Peterson, Kyle Britsch, Kevin Slaubaugh, Kalvin Slaubaugh, Kimberly Nelsen, and Kurtis Nelsen. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Earl Stevens, and great-grandfathers, Ernest Campbell & David Noles, Sr., and his unborn siblings; Noah, Tim, and Savannah Kate. He was a young man of great faith, and he believed in the 3 F's: Faith, Family, Football! In lieu of flowers, his family suggests contributions to the Reed Stevens Memorial Scholarship fund for college scholarships.
