Remi Joseph Doom was born on March 1, 1923, in Grandview Township, to Camille and Alixa (Lemahieu) Doom. As a child, he moved with his family to Vallers Township where he farmed his whole career. He was baptized at St. Eloi Catholic Church and confirmed at Holy Redeemer in Marshall. On February 16, 1949, he was united in marriage to Harriet DeBruyckere. The couple continued farming until moving into Cottonwood in 1985. Ray was a farmer and jack of all trades. He enjoyed playing cards, running parts for his son, Steve, and spending time with his family. He was a charter member of St. Maryâs Catholic Church and was a member of the Cottonwood Lions Club. Ray was a simple man with a love of nature and always had a giving heart.
Ray died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Harriet, of Cottonwood, children Monica (and Donald) Senden of Marshall, Bernie (and Duane) Louwagie of Marshall, Joyce Doom of Tyler, Jenny (and Ralph) Dieken of Marshall, Steven (and Brenda) Doom of Cottonwood, Colleen Pehrson of Cottonwood, 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, brother Edmond (and Leona) Doom of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin grandsons, eight siblings, three in infancy.
